Discover the enchanting town of Obuse, the town loved by Katsushika Hokusai, who created masterpieces such as the "Great Wave."
You will visit two different cites which have the artworks of Hokusai: Ganshoin Temple and Hokusai Museum.
Especially at Hokusai Museum, you will be able to enter the private backyard area guided by the curator.
After the visit, you will join the art workshop to draw the "Great Wave," drinking locally produced drinks.

Itinerary

  • 11:00 | Nozawa Onsen Central Bus Terminal

    Your guide will be waiting for you at Nozawa Onsen Central Bus Terminal.

  • 12:00 | Ganshoin Temple

    The large ceiling painting "Phoenix Glancing in All Directions" was drawn by Katsushika Hokusai about 180 years ago.
    Its power overwhelms all visitors.
    Visiting the temple, you will feel Japanese beauty and tradition as well as the depth of its history.

  • 13:10 | Lunch

    You can enjoy Japanese cuisine made with locally produced ingredients in a beautiful architecture.
    The building is a renovated storehouse of sake which is said Hokusai tasted.

  • 14:10 | Special Admission to the Private Collection of Hokusai Museum

    One of the most talented artists, Katsushika Hokusai, spent his final years here in Obuse, leaving behind lots of masterpieces.

    On this tour, you will enter the backyard area. Guided by the curator, you will be able to discover new aspects of Hokusai's charm.

The cancellation fee is as follows:

  • 20 days prior or more: no charge
  • 19-8 days prior: 20% of the total fee
  • 7-2 days prior: 30% of the total fee
  • 1 day prior: 40% of the total fee
  • The day of the tour before the tour start time: 50% of the total fee
  • After the tour start time / no-show: 100% of the total fee

  • No cancellation fee will be charged for cancellations due to inclement weather.
