Embark on a journey through Obuse, a town steeped in culture and tradition. This tour is a feast for the senses, combining culinary delights with cultural exploration.

Enjoy delicious miso ramen in an earthen pot (vegan ramen available). Takesan Ramen Obuse uses local miso from the Kokuhei Miso Brewery, where you will get to tour the historic warehouse and savor their original miso. This tour comes with a mini miso souvenir!

You will also have opportunities to visit a historic sake brewery, admire local art at the Hokusai-kan Museum, and stroll through the scenic townscape.

Conveniently located near the Zenkoji Temple, Togakushi Shrine, Nozawa Onsen, and the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, consider a visit to Obuse to enhance your Nagano experience!

Itinerary

  • 11:00 AM | Obuse Station

    Meet your guide at Obuse Station. Your guide will be standing outside the station, holding a sign.

  • 11:00 AM | Obuse Town Walk

    Wander through the charming streets of Obuse, guided by your expert. Uncover the secrets of Hokusai's inspiration and the town's rich history.

  • 11:20 AM | Lunch at Takesan Ramen

    Enjoy delicious miso ramen (Donabe Miso Tonkotsu (pork broth) or Shinshu Misogura Ramen (vegan)) in an earthen pot. Takesan Ramen Obuse uses local miso from the Kokuhei Miso Brewery next door!

  • 12:20 PM | Kokuhei Miso Brewery

    Step back in time and explore a miso brewery dating back to the Edo period. Tour the historic warehouse and savor their original miso.

  • 1:10 PM | Hokusai-kan Museum

    Dive into the world of Hokusai at this dedicated museum. Marvel at his ukiyo-e prints and original paintings, most notably the panels that adorn the ceiling of the Higashimachi and Kanmachi festival floats.

  • 2:10 PM | Souvenir Shopping (or Cafe)

    Shop for souvenirs or enjoy delectable desserts at one of Obuse's many chestnut confectioneries. Please note that food & drink purchased here is not included in the tour price.

  • 2:50 PM | Matsubaya Honten Sake Brewery

    Discover the heart of sake-making at Matsubaya Brewery. Tour the historic brewery and savor the delicate flavors of sake, a timeless treasure.

  • 3:45 PM | Obuse Station

    We will bid farewell at Obuse Station.

If you would like to start your tour at Nagano Station instead of Obuse Station, please let us know.

Cancellation Policy

  • 8 days prior or more: no charge
  • 4-7 days prior: 30% of the total tour cost
  • 2-3 days prior: 50% of the total tour cost
  • 24 hours prior or less: 100% of the total tour cost

Inclement Weather

  • Can be changed to a walking + car version at no extra charge. We will notify you by 7:00 p.m. the day before the event.
  • No cancellation fee will be charged for cancellations due to inclement weather.

Points of Attention

  • In Japan, the legal drinking age is 20 years old.
  • Tour routes will be adjusted as needed.
  • We recommend purchasing travel insurance for added peace of mind. Minimum coverage is included.
  • Please wear comfortable walking shoes.
  • In rare cases, if we cannot secure a guide, the tour may be canceled with a full refund. You will be notified at least one day in advance.
  • Participants are responsible for any damage to their personal belongings during the tour or any additional activities.
  • We cannot be held responsible for any accidents or issues that may arise during the tour.
